Coach Finally Does Their Take on an Affordable Birkin

August 9, 2008 by Designer Ella

With a flap fastened by their signature turn-lock, no key required or present, this bag is undeniably Coach-style, yet unmistakenly Hermès-inspired.

The Hamptons Leather Flap Tote
(in Coach’s oft-literal naming style.)

I would totally buy one of these, but only if/when…

  1. I make more money again… paying rent + utilities now and times are tougher..
  2. They shorten the handles a bit.
  3. They do some punchier colors. Red or blue? Something still neutral and wearable.

Still I think this goes in the positive ranking for Coach.

I love this bag - as is! I’m a huge fan of classic, neutral shades. The handles work for me, and the stiching adds a bit of spice to the design.

Very cute bag. I think it actually looks a little like a $49 Botkier bag I saw at Target. Yup, Target now carries Botkier bags.

It’s really disappointing how Coach keeps have to get “inspiration” from other brands. They do really good quality items, don’t you agree that it is time for them to start doing their own thing?

I really happen to think that COACH doesn’t do copying much, at least not more than any other large, reputable or MORE reputable-by-most brands.

I also do think practically every brand should do their take on the Brikin, especially when they can make it affordable. Even when affordable just means a lower price than the ridiculous tag on the Birkins.

What other bags do you see that are inspired? I already think they do their own thing.

This style just happened to be news-worthy for me, I do have one more bag (my fave out of the current) that I have to review–at least.

I love COACH so I need to space them out or else just do a simple post with a large collection photo gallery. :-)

Nice bag, I have been a long time fan of Coach, their styles are not for teens only but for mature people as well. Not too much pink going on if you know what I mean.

Yes, I agree. They do have teens styles too though, but I also must say last Spring or Summer introduced a pink leather bag that brought me back more into pink for bags (like 100% and leather). I’m still picky with it though, so I’m just going to make my own now that I’m getting back into crafting.. But it was the first fully pink bag I liked since I was a few years younger.. That’s partly personal trend, maybe? But mostly the, yep, higher maturity of the rest of it. :-) (Still I’m craving something really specific, it’s the designer in moi.)
