Finally, a true IT Bag competitor from Coach (without too much price gouging). The Coach Daphne Large Satchel is sophisticated and sized (15″ l) for serious business, and we mean it. Its lightweight leather comes in rich hues and even playful lilac (available 11 / 05). The details are subtle and refined, its most notable accent being a dogleash clip closing a slim flap over the top. We’re even happy Coach has added its addition to the braided strap trend.
Unfortunately, at $698, it’s beyond mosts’ budgets. For those fabulistas who “have”, the quality is worth the price, especially considering comparable designs.
I’ve made the call, now let’s see how this bag is received, for there is this elusive math to the acclaim of such bags. The bag alone might not add up to the buzz of certain names, or even the ridiculousness of pricetags. It might settle somewhere in between usual popularity, no matter what it, alone, deserves.

I was looking at this bag the other day and really really liked it. I have to admit that the price tags at Coach are growing (which is a bit disappointing since they used to always have great quality bags for a more reasonable price). Yet I think I could even use this bag for work. The brown in my favorite color by far, but I am intrigued to see the Lilac. I’ll have to go see if the Coach store near me has it this weekend. This could be a lovely school bag for you! (Then again, that expensive price tag makes it a little less practical as a school bag…)

I’m glad that you like it. I feel the same about the colors.
It’s actually not large enough to hold binders, etc. And yeah, school bags must be set on the floor, and I just can’t do that with expensive designer bags! The only reason I want a more quality school bag is because with so much use, fake leather falls apart–quite literally. I want a nice mix of nothing luxurious, but well-made and sturdy.

I don’t know…I guess I’m a bit disappointed in this bag. I mean, it’s gorgeous, but it’s just a slightly retooled version of Coach’s soho flap satchel at TWICE the price. Of course the styling is amazing, I love the braided handles, and it’s got a nice classic but laid back boho feel. But I don’t see any major improvements on the original Coach satchel that would inspire me to spend my rent money on this bag. I’m becoming disenchanted with Coach…as another comment mentioned, prices are increasing but quality really isn’t. And with so many nice leather bags out there (I just got a classic speedy-style bag from J Crew on sale that I’m extremely happy with), I’m passing on Coach more and more. Still a very pretty bag though.

I was just at the COACH store in the mall, and as far as their Signature items go, quality has increased. Every Signature item I’ve seen recently has perfectly aligned Cs. Now, they were already of a certain standard, but varied in symmetrical attractiveness due to the uniqueness of each bag’s pattern. Now, care seems to be put in that every bag is symmetrical. AND Cs continue along topstitching! It’s amazing. I want a new Signature bag, but the current ones I like are trés expensive, because they’re made with snake. I don’t need snake; just leather. I’m waiting for possibly the Spring line.
